Distinguished Service Award
Mary Yvonnette C. Nerves, RMT, MD, FPSP, MMHoA
Bonnet, as she is fondly called, comes from a family of physicians. But Bonnet is the product of the confluence of her genetic nature as well as her choice to nurture her passion. That she chose to specialize in Pathology has been a blessing to the Philippine Society of Pathologists which she has served truly and well.
Dr. Nerves earned her degree in B.S. Medical Technology from the Divine Word University in 1989 and her degree in Medicine from the same institution in 1994. She finished her residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the East Avenue Medical Center in 1999. She became a certified anatomic and clinical pathologist in April of the following year. She was certified as fellow in both Anatomic and Clinical Pathology in 2006.
Dr Nerves also holds a Master’s Degree in Management, Major in Hospital Administration, which she earned from the Philippine Christian University in 2015.
Dr. Nerves is presently affiliated with the East Avenue Medical Center and Valenzuela Medical Center. She has been an active volunteer staff at the DOH National Reference Laboratory for National Reference Laboratory for Environmental, Occupational Health, Toxicology and Micronutrient Assay (E.O.H.T.M.A.) for more than ten years. She is an associate professor of the Department of Pathology of the College of Medicine of Our Lady of Fatima University and University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center. She has also served as associate professor at the Far Eastern University-Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation.
Bonnet has been an active member, serving the society and holding the following positions:
• Member, Committee on Accreditation and Residency Training, Member (2008-2012)
• Chairman, Committee on Accreditation and Residency Training, Member (2013-2015)

• Member, Board of Pathology (2016-2017, 2018-2019)
• Secretary-Treasurer, Board of Pathology, (2017-2018)
Bonnet is a Pathologist and a professor, but she exceeds herself by taking on volunteer work for the PSP with constancy, competence, and dedication.
She is a paragon of professional propriety and competence. In the exercise of authority given to her, she has been partial only to truth. Her constancy, kindness, loyalty and sense of justice spring form her soul.
The timeless adage “Silent waters run deep” perfectly describes her.
