Alejandro E. Arevalo, MD

Dr. Alejandro E. Arevalo is a subspecialist in Hematopathology, and is certified by the Philippine Society of Pathologists, Inc. in 2012. He had his formal fellowship training in Hematopathology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, USA from July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2007. Upon his return to the Philippines, he became an active consultant in Hematopathology at St. Luke’s Medical Center (Quezon City and Global City), University of Santo Tomas Hospital and Makati Medical Center, and a visiting consultant in Hematopathology at The Medical City and Cardinal Santos Medical Center. He is an Assistant Professor II at the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, and presently serves as the Section Chief of Hematology at the Institute of Pathology, St. Luke’s Medical Center and Makati Medical Center, Consultant Director in Hematology and Flow Cytometry at The Medical City and Chair of the Department of Anatomic Pathology of the UST Hospital.

His area of interest is in the field of Flow Cytometry (minimal residual disease detection in acute lymphoblastic leukemia) and Flouresence in-situ Hybridization (hematolymphoid malignancies), for which he obtained further training at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee, USA, in August of 2009, and at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska, USA in February of 2012, respectively.

He earned his medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery with honors (cum laude) in 1997. He had his medical internship at Makati Medical Center in 1998, and was voted as the most outstanding intern for that year. He completed his residency training for combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the Santo Tomas University Hospital from 1999-2002, and served as chief resident. He is certified by the Philippine Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology in April of 2003, and sworn in as fellow in April of 2011.

He has been invited to lecture at various Societies, namely the Philippine Society of Pathologists, Inc., Philippine Society of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, Philippine Society of Oncology, Philippine Association of Medical Technologists and the Philippine College of Surgeons. He participated in two international papers, which were published in the Journal of Hematology and the British Journal of Hematology in 2010, and attended several international conventions and workshops in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.
