RULES FOR ANNUAL RESEARCH PAPER CONTEST

1. The contest is open to all Pathology Consultants, Residents, and Junior members of the Philippine Society of Pathologists. The research entries will be screened according to a set of criteria.

2. The Research paper should be unpublished and have not been presented in any similar contest outside their Institution.

3. The research paper must have been approved by their institution’s Ethics Review board or any other similar approving bodies. A proof of the said approval will be asked from the finalists.

RESEARCH PAPER FORMAT

  1. Title

  2. Abstract

  3. Body of Paper

    a. Introduction ( to include significance of the study and review of related literature )

    b. Objectives

    c. Methodology

    d. Results ( to include tables, graphs etc. )

    e. Discussion and Analysis

    f. Conclusion and Recommendation

  4. References

  5. Appendices

4. The complete copy of the Research Paper can be submitted via email at pspinc1950@yahoo.com  accompanied by a written manuscript printed, double spaced on a 8.5” x 11” white bond paper. There must be no identifying marks referring to the author or institution on the manuscript. The manuscript must be placed in a sealed envelope with another sheet of paper with the TITLE, NAME of AUTHOR, INSTITUTION, and CONTACT INFORMATION including e- mail address as well as proof of presentation and approval from their institution’s Technical Review committee and Ethics Review board.

The following will NOT be accepted as entries:

a. Preliminary Reports of Research

b. Case Reports or Case Series

c. Papers who have won contests previously or in contests outside the Philippine Society of Pathologists. However, research papers presented and have won in their hospital research contest can be accepted.

5. The finalists will be pre-judged according to a set criteria. The author should be the presenter during the oral presentation at the PSP Annual Convention. Each contestant is given 8 minutes to present his/her paper.

6. The Board of Judges will be composed of three (3) members from the different disciplines of Medicine.

7. The Chairman of the Committee on Research will announce the winners during the Closing Ceremony.

The prizes are as follows: First place - 10,000 Php, Second place - 7,000 Php, and Third place - 5,000 Php.

8. Deadline for submission of entries is  on March 15, 2019 to the Committee on Research at PSP Secretariat office and thru the PSP email. The finalists of the research contest will be announced 2-3 weeks after the deadline of submission will be  announced thru a letter or an announcement at the PSP official Facebook page or at the 68th annual convention website.

9. The date, time and venue of the contest during the convention will be announced later thru a letter , PSP official Facebook page or at the 68th Annual Convention website.

10. The winners will be announced during the convention’s closing ceremonies. All contestants must be present during the announcement.


RULES FOR POSTER PRESENTATION SESSION

  1. The contest is open to all members of the Philippine Society of Pathologists ( Fellows, Diplomates and Junior Members/Residents ).

  2. Only one entry per Fellow, Diplomate, or Junior Member/Residents will be accepted.

  3. The Abstract should be submitted to the PSP email pspinc1950@yahoo.com  on or before March 15, 2019.

  4. The Presentation should consist of:

    Title – 15 words or less

    Objective Statements

    Case summary to include pictures of the histopathology/autopsy report, imaging studies etc.

    Discussion

    Conclusion

    References

  5. The finalists of the poster contest will be announced 2-3 weeks after the deadline of submission will be  announced thru a letter, an announcement at the PSP official Facebook page, and at the 68th annual convention website.

  6. The size of the poster is 5 ft. x 3 ft. The sections should flow like a storybook starting from the top to bottom.

  7. The finalists are responsible for printing and mounting of their posters.

  8. The poster area and the schedule for mounting will be announced thru a letter, an announcement at the PSP Facebook page, and at the 68th annual convention website.

  9. There will be three ( 3 ) winners in this category; First prize : 7,000 Php, Second prize: 5,000 Php, Third prize : 3,000 Php.

  10. The winners will be announced during the convention’s closing ceremonies. All contestants must be present during the announcement.
